How to use the goliath name generator
- Tap Generate for goliath names in three parts: a given name, a nickname in quotes and a clan name.
- Pick the highland style for the classic open sound or storm for heavier, harder names.
- Under More options, show the nickname without the clan, the given name alone, or clan names only.
- Star the names you like; each comes with a hint for saying it.
Names cut from stone
Goliaths are mountain people in most settings: big, proud and practical, living where every wasted word costs breath. Their given names are short and open, usually two syllables, built from hard beginnings such as Kor-, Thun-, Rak- and Vak- and blunt endings: -ak, -orn or -uth for men, -a, -enna or -ika for women. Vowels seldom meet, so most syllables stand on their own like steps cut into a cliff. The list here begins with Tukraga “Bearwarder” Gorgar, said TUK-rah-gah.
The storm style uses heavier sounds (Thar-, Drak-, Hrun-) and closing consonants, for clans that live higher and harder than the rest.
Nicknames are earned
The most interesting part of a goliath name is the one in the middle. A nickname is given for a deed (a climb, a carry, a rescue, a mistake) and can change when the goliath does something more memorable. Ours join a mountain word to a doer, so you get names like Stonereader, Cloudwatcher or Ropewarder. Every combination is checked against our block list, and the nicknames printed in published game books are never shown.
A goliath who has not yet earned a nickname, or who has lost one, is a story waiting to happen.
Clan names
The clan name comes last, an invented word of two or three syllables such as Korukar or Vulmuthal, longer and rounder than a given name, as if the whole clan had worn it smooth. Some goliaths name the peak their clan lives under instead. Choose Clan name only to list clan names alone, for example when you are mapping a mountain range.

Writing goliaths
- Let the nickname change. A character who starts the story as Ropecarrier and ends it as Stormbreaker has an arc you can see in their name.
- Use the nickname for honour, not insult. If someone mocks a goliath's nickname, it should matter, and it should have consequences.
- Keep given names short. The nickname and the clan already make the full name long; a two-syllable given name keeps it sayable.
At the table
Goliath players often enjoy earning a new nickname during the campaign. Agree with the player that the nickname can change, then hand them one after a memorable moment: the night they carried a wounded friend down the mountain, or the time they argued with a dragon and won. It costs nothing and players remember it for years.
Frequently asked questions
How do goliath names work?
Here a goliath has three names: a short given name, a nickname earned by a deed and shown in quotes, and a clan name. From this page's list, Garu “Mosswatcher” Karinor is a typical example.
What is a good goliath nickname?
Something that sounds earned: a mountain word joined to a deed, such as Cloudwatcher or Stonereader. Choose Nickname only under More options to see a list of them with given names.
What are some female goliath names?
Feminine goliath names here end in -a, -enna, -ika, -ira or -eth. Set Gender to Feminine, or browse the female names below.
Can I use these goliath names?
Yes. They are free to use in any campaign, story or commercial project, without credit. We claim no rights in generated names; just check trademarks before naming a product after one.
Are these goliath names from a rulebook?
No. Our syllables, nicknames and clan names are written by us, and the example names printed in published rulebooks are blocked. The goliath is one of the nine species in the SRD 5.2 open rules text; see our About page.
